The students who connect with my approach the most are those for whom foreign language does not come easy; that is how Spanish was for me.
Spanish was by far my most difficult course when I returned to college. Math and science were easiest for me to understand, but my techniques for success in those were not helpful with Spanish.
A professor told me the best way to learn something is to teach it. So I trained as a CRLA II certified tutor to learn techniques I could apply to succeed with Spanish. I found what worked for me and, as a tutor, I help others find what works for them. My students encouraged me early on to pursue a second career in teaching, and so I completed a Masters in Spanish at San Jose State to qualify myself to teach Spanish at community colleges.
