Hello, I am appreciative and excited to be your tutor. I have a BA in Humanities from San Jose State University. Also I am studying to be an Elementary School Teacher. I'll begin student teaching in the fall.
I have taught Preschool-8th grade. I was also an Instructional Aide for special education classes. I have experience in teaching students who have learning disabilities and helping them out with their assignments. I have passed the CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) and CSET: Multiple Subjects which tested me on mathematics, reading and writing, science, history, and art.
I can tutor students in learning how to read, interpret what they read, and write an essay in response to the reading. For the younger students who are just learning how to read; I can tutor students phonics, how to sound out the letters, and then sound out the words, and then how to read a complete sentence. I enjoy reading stories aloud to students and I will engage in a reading exercise with them. I personally enjoy reading and I want to open a whole new world for students, so they can enjoy books too.
In writing, I can tutor you in writing a complete sentence to formatting an essay, or a research paper. In my spare time, I write poetry, songs, and short stories. I maintain a blog filled with my own literature. I look forward to tutoring you in these subjects and improve on your writing skills. I will also tutor you in grammar, spelling and punctuation.
I can also tutor prealgebra to algebra. In my experience in teaching, I have comfortably used math games to assist the students in mastering the concepts, and provide hands on learning. This is crucial to the understanding of the subject matter. I will clearly explain the entire procedure to the students and work with them step by step till they understand.
In terms of public speaking, I am a current member and I am looking to run for office as Secretary of the club. I have won awards for public speaking and I can be your mentor as well as your tutor. I can also take you to the club, so you can see the meeting in action. We have every enthusiastic, friendly, and wonderful public speakers. The meeting is broken down into three sections; Prepared Speeches, Table Topics (extemporaneous speaking or think on your feet) and the Evaluation Section. You will learn how to speak on your feet, craft your speech so you can reach the audience and engage their interest, as well as improve on your grammar, and you will also gain valuable experience in evaluating your fellow members' speeches. We always look forward to guests coming to our meetings and then joining. The club has a warm and supportive atmosphere from the new member to the veterans of Toastmasters.
I am also computer savvy and can take you on a tour of how to use the computer. I can teach you how to set up a Word document to setting up your own email account. I know basic HTML and can teach you how to code a webpage. In addition, I can also teach you to type, without looking at the keyboard.
My philosophy in education is that all students want to learn; therefore I must provide the proper tools and the inspiration to further the students' quest for knowledge. I respect my students and I will provide time and patience so that learning can occur. I am flexible in my time and will work with you to set up the most convenient time as well as place.
I strive to keep in constant communication because I know your learning is important to you. Let's maintain a flow of ideas and bounce suggestions, comments, and thoughts off of each other. I want to be a helpful, hardworking, and supportive tutor for you.
I hope to form a partnership where the teaching and learning goes both ways. I realize that I will be learning too from my students, and you will be teaching me as well. I know that we are all teachers and students. We all have something to learn from each other.
