My name is Michael and I am a tutor of many disciplines! I graduated from UCLA in 2012 with a Bachelor’s in Linguistics, and I will be applying to graduate schools for Education this coming fall. I am looking to gain more experience in working one on one with individuals, though I welcome group sessions as well, and I hope you’ll consider me to be your or your student’s tutor!
A little about me: I love to run, swim and bike through different places – especially in national parks! Hiking, photography, writing, reading and hanging out with friends take up the rest of my hobby and personal time. I am also always teaching myself new and different skills and studies, so you’re guaranteed to be hiring someone dedicated to academics!
If you wish to know more about me and any more of my experiences, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
Payment/Rate an Hour
My current rate is $45 an hour. I am flexible with the rate, however. I understand that budgets can be tight, and I do not want to discourage you with the cost of the tutoring. I very much am looking for the experience as well, and I am not solely doing this for the money (although admittedly I am very much in need of it). If you contact me for a job and would like to negotiate the rate an hour, I would be more than happy to do so! I’m looking to build a strong network and I sincerely want to help you in whatever it is that you need assistance. My career ambition is to get into the field of education or the environment, and this year I will be applying for graduate school to study precisely that. With that being said, please do not abuse my understanding. I am indeed a struggling, post-college individual! Please know that you will be getting your true money’s worth. I have had tons of experiences in college and outside of it with teaching, mentoring and tutoring. I’m dedicated, hard-working and my intellectual curiosity flies through the roof.
Availability and Location:
I am very willing to work with someone online. At the moment I live in Sausalito, CA just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, and I am flexible with driving distance.
In terms of my availability, I am very much open to working around your schedule, and even working on the weekends. We can work together in finding the perfect time that is ideal for each of us. As for where, I am not impartial toward coming to your home, provided that it is within a reasonable driving distance from where I am located (and provided that you are okay with opening your home to me). I do not mind meeting somewhere public, however, such as at a library, a school campus or a coffee shop – whatever works for you works for me.
Preferences in Whom I Tutor:
I don’t have any preferences or restrictions! I love to work with kids – I hope to work with them full-time in the future – but I also have experience tutoring and teaching people of my age and older. I have developed lesson plans and led classes where my students were both foreign professors and foreign students at UCLA, and I am very comfortable when it comes to working with people of different cultures (I welcome it!).
How I Work
My style of tutoring is very dependent on whom I am working with, their learning style, and his or her overall needs (along with the subject matter being covered). I will tailor and plan lessons toward what we together feel needs addressing, but I will always come to a session prepared and with a goal to accomplish each time. In our first session I will: focus on setting your goals and what you hope to accomplish specifically in our meetings; getting a taste for where you stand with the subject matter already; how you work; and with enough time, getting started with a bit of tutoring! I’m here to tutor you and help you get results and achieve your goals. Whether it be learning the Spanish language, working on pronunciation in English, learning better study habits and time management skills, or other topics that I am qualified for, you will be getting high-quality tutoring by a UCLA graduate who takes great pride in his work and everything he does.
