Your Sonoma County Science and Math Tutor!
I specialize in tutoring chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics (algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, calculus (single and multivariable)).
Academic Background
As a the top student in AP physics, I began tutoring in this subject seven years ago. Since then I have completed a rigorous training in the sciences, earning a BS in Biophysics and an MS in Chemistry at UC San Diego. As an undergraduate I joined in several scientific research projects at universities all around the country, including UPenn. I now know firsthand many of the ways that science in the classroom is applied in research, and I bring this perspective into my tutoring sessions.
My Tutoring Approach
Helping students improve their understanding of difficult coursework boosts their grades, and ultimately their curiosity in learning the material. From fluid physics to advanced inorganic chemistry, I focus on tackling the toughest areas first, and directly engage the student through questions rather than uninteresting lecture. I frequently use analogies and "real world" examples to brighten the material, making it easier to understand and remember.
Credibility and Experience
After private AP physics tutoring in High School, I went on to become the only undergraduate tutor working in the UCSD Physics Tutorial Center at the time. Later as a graduate student I became a Chemistry lab TA, teaching sections of students lab skills and chemistry concepts, as well as leading review sessions to over 70 students on my own. I currently tutor many students in science and math, one-on-one and in groups, and work as a substitute teacher for Sonoma Country Day School. Before all of this I worked as a Boy Scout Camp Counselor for 3 Summers, teaching outdoor skills with sensitivity, patience, and humor, to boys ages 10 -16.
