My name is Adam P. and I teach math and business subjects as well as English as a Second Language (ESL).
I tutor because I enjoy it. I feel privileged to have an opportunity to help others come to terms with and understand material which is new or challenging for them. I tutor because I love the subjects I work with and I enjoy the chance of communicating that enthusiasm to other people.
I appreciate the difference a good teacher can make in a person's education. In middle school and high school I was a mediocre student (at best) and I was fortunate to encounter teachers who inspired me, helped me develop, and encouraged me to reach higher and further than I would have on my own.
My methods depend entirely on the abilities and interests of the student I am working with. We are all different. We have different ways of looking at a the world in general and individual subjects in particular. One size does not fit all and part of my job is to respond to individuals based on where they are, what they know, and what they need. This can range from very informal discussions and activities to specifically calibrated tests and exercises around a particular subject area.
