My professional career has revolved around instructing students in chemistry and biology mainly at a liberal arts college in Palos Verdes. While many students say these subjects are hard, I am a firm believer that the difficulty usually stems from the way the subject is taught and a lack of emphasis on the work that must be done to practice concepts. In my teaching I stress that any science is just like a foreign language and must be practiced as such to gain understanding.
I have 2 Master's degrees in biology and biochemistry, which has allowed me to teach a variety of courses over the years. I have been employed mainly as chemistry teacher for a liberal arts college in Palos Verdes for nearly two decades but have also instructed high school biology for summer schools. Most importantly, I was also a private tutor for several years instructing students in the sciences and math. While I absolutely enjoy the classroom interactions as part of my job, I also equally enjoy the one-on-one level instruction tutoring provides. In the past I have worked with the same student over several years as they matured from grade school to college and am grateful for the opportunity be a part of their growing process.
As I live in Costa Mesa and work in Palos Verdes this semester, I am available for tutoring anywhere from the South Bay to Northwestern Orange county region.
