Hello,

I graduated from the University of Advancing Technology with a 4.0 GPA and received a Bachelor of Arts Game Design degree. I then pursued an MA in English as a Second Language at Arizona State University. I graduated with a 4.0 at the start of 2012.

I have a passion for the country of Japan as well as the Japanese language. During my time at the University of Advancing Technology, I took a Japanese language or culture course during every semester but one, when the a Japanese course was not offered. I would state that my Japanese language skills and my knowledge of Japanese history and culture are intermediate level.

I spent three years teaching English as a Second Language in the Nagasaki prefecture of Japan. I taught an age range of Kindergarten level to adult language courses.

Along with my Japanese language skills, I have introductory Spanish language skills. I grew up along the border between the United States and Mexico, so I know a little of the Spanish language and Mexican culture.

I have also been studying and playing the piano for the past 15 years and can safely say that teaching it would be both easy and fun. This also includes an electronic keyboard or a synthesizer.

I have a high knowledge of computers. I understand the basics completely (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.). I had an internship with the University of Advancing Technology that involved using Adobe Photoshop and helped me to refine my skills.

Thank you,
Megan

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I am graduated from Arizona State University with an MA in English as a Second Language. I know above intermediate Japanese and introductory Spanish as well as the required English, of which I am fluent. I have experience teaching students who do not know much English due to growing up along the border between the United States and Mexico. I understand how challenging the process of learning a new language is in a country where it is required to get by and I know how frustrating it can be. That is why I hope to help other get through this process with confidence and ease.

General Computer

I have been using computers since I was 3 years of age. My father was a computer science instructor as well as IT for his school district. From him I was able to learn the basics of how to use a computer, such as keeping it up to date, using Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel, along with many other skills. I was actually a teaching assistant to a general computer usage class while I was in school, so teaching the basics would not be a problem.

Japanese

I studied Japanese during college almost every semester for three years. I also worked in Japan an additional three years, during which I conversed in Japanese on a daily basis.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have been making PowerPoint presentations to use in the classroom for years now. I am able to use the program to create fun and interesting presentations.

Piano

I have been playing the piano for the past 15 years. I originally started playing with lessons from a pianist, but left after 3 years, when he could no longer teach to my level. I have since been self teaching while training myself to play by ear as well as with sheet music. I am confident in my ability to teach how to play the piano along with how to read sheet music and catch different notes by ear.
