Foremost, I am an educator and a lifelong learner. I am a college professor and consider myself an educational technologist, who strongly believes that constant improvement drives my efforts in teaching and lesson planning.
Instructional time must allow for students to interact with their teacher and learning materials to develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter. I am convinced learning improves if students are able to transfer and apply new knowledge to projects and assignments flexible enough that students can mold them to fit their own contexts, interests, and learning styles. I have compiled two textbooks used by students and professors. I also have experience as a business owner writing business plans and drafts. I own a company with 12 employees and we are celebrating our 10th year in business. I have experience preparing a business plan/proposal, having attended numerous SBA workshops. But my 26 year experience as a College professor, requiring writing assignment and preparing students for these projects have given my the faculties to teach in this subject.
Although I passed the CBEST exam many years ago with math being my strongest proficiency and highest score, I performed much better than the median in all three sections. And although I took the paper-based test, I have taken the computer-based GMAT and GRE. So I am familiar with both formats.
I'm a college professor with 25 years experience ranging from high school to undergraduate education. I teach full-time for the California Community College system and part-time for an Adult school. I possess two Masters Degrees from UCLA and CSULA and a current California Teaching credential.
I can assist with the Reading section which targets two skills: critical analysis and evaluation, and comprehension and research skills. At the California Community College level, my specialty is U.S. and California Government, undergraduate Constitutional Law, Comparative Politics, and International Relations. These subjects require extensive critical analysis, comprehension and evaluation skills. But I am not limited to just social science materials because I also teach physical and life science, and U.S. and British literature as part of my teaching assignment in adult high school diploma, GED, and test preparation.
I can help with the Mathematics section which requires you to solve mathematical word problems measuring three skills: estimation, measurement, and statistical principles; computation and problem solving; and numerical and graphic relationships. My adult education assignment ranges from elementary math to Algebra 2 and Trigonometry.
For the writing section, I can aid with writing effectively by reviewing the different writing step and practicing on two kinds of essay topics. One type of topic will be on analyzing a given situation or statement. The other will be to write a narrative about a specified personal experience. The writing preparation would focus on the CBEST rubric or writing scale, aiming for a score of 3 or 4 in organization and clarity, reasoning and coherence, development of support information, diction or precise word usage, conventional writing mechanics and sentence structure, and appropriateness in addressing the reading audience. As evidence of my writing skills, I have compiled two of my textbooks used by my students and other professors.
Public speaking is the process of presenting information, thoughts, and reasoning directly to a group of people in a structured, articulate, deliberate manner with the intention of informing, advocating, or entertaining the listeners. Public speaking involves face-to-face dialect between a presenter or speaker and an audience for the purpose of communication.
Effective public speaking requires learning by observation and practice and perfecting listening-skills by taking note of constructive coaching.
Public speaking is involves developing oratory with style, cogency, and grace; use of gestures; voice control; varied and appropriate vocabulary and diction; speaking notes and pitches; and use of humor with the objective of relating with the audience.
With 25 years of experience in public speaking, lecturing, and presenting, and with speech training during undergraduate and graduate school, I assert to be qualified to coach students in speech writing with proper English grammar and conveying effectively in public speaking.
