I am writing with more than a casual interest in the position of Music Teacher. I am passionate about community in general. My interest lies not just in education, but in being a part of the whole of one’s journey toward building a life of adventure, creativity, and enlightenment. The fact that music is the subject matter makes this concept even more fulfilling.
It was discovering – in my twenties - that I am Dyslexic that inspired me to learn how to learn. Up until this point, I was consistently frustrated and left thinking that I was not intelligent at all. The challenge of this obstacle led me to realize that we all perceive and internalize information differently. This discovery not only affects my studies but helps me teach, problem solve, and give direction.
It is my responsibility, as a teacher, to find out how my students – classroom, ensemble or studio – learn. At times close monitoring is needed, other times staying out of the way is best.
I grew up in Clinton, New York and come from a musically rich family. After high school (Notre Dame H.S. Utica, New York) I attended Murray State University in Murray Kentucky, where I received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree. As a student I played professionally in the Owensboro, and Paducah Symphony Orchestras, and was chosen as an undergraduate to be a member of the Murray State Faculty Brass Quintet during my Junior and Senior years.
After graduation I was awarded the Kool Jazz Festival Scholarship, the Berklee Scholarship, and the Art Farmer Jazz Master Award to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. My studies there were in Professional Music where I concentrated on composition, arranging, jazz performance, and studio recording while fulfilling a scholarship requirement as Assistant Conductor of the Berklee Wind Ensemble.
After leaving Berklee, I earned a full merit based scholarship and was awarded a Masters Degree in Trumpet Performance by the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. The highlight was a trip to Europe to perform at the International Mahler Festival in Paris, record an album in London on the Hyperion Recordsl, and appear on the BBC.
I have been privileged to have studied with some of the world’s greatest musicians/teachers including; John Flavor, Peter Voisin, Jeff Tyzik, Vince DiMartino, Phil Collins, Bob Freedman, Herb Palmeroy, Jeff Stout, Greg Hopkins, and Jack Palmer to name a few.

Performing on the Cathedral Basilica Concert Series in Covington, Kentucky along with featured performances at KMEA, OMEA, were part of my 20 years as a member of the Northern Kentucky University Brass Quintet.
I find the most joy and satisfaction, however, with my involvement in Sacred Music.
As the former Music Director at Christ the King Lutheran Church where I led the choir, wrote 3 settings of the Liturgy – Contemporary, Dixieland Jazz, and a Modern Jazz – as well as other sacred musical compositions and/or arrangements. We were chosen on several occasions as featured performers or worship leaders at Synod Assemblies, and The National Pastoral Musicians Conference.
As the music director for IMAGO (a professional contemporary Christian band from Northern Hills United Methodist Church in Finneytown) I wrote music, hired musicians, and led worship.
Most recently I have been part of Roselawn Lutheran Church and served on Council. There, we started and maintain an Eye Clinic, Dental Clinic, Food Pantry, and Tutoring Center in order to give hope to an ever changing community while providing every day needs.
