There are three major components of the CBEST examination to test proficiency for prospective teachers: Mathematics, Reading, and Writing. The Reading Section is comprised of 50 multiple choice questions to test critical analysis, evaluation, and comprehension. The Math Section is also comprised of 50 multiple choice questions to test beyond computation in the area of arithmetic, algebra, measurement, and geometry. I have taken and successful passed the CBEST, which has allowed to obtain an preliminary California Teaching License. Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
