Hello Parents and Potential Students!
I am an easygoing yet energetic young professional with a lot of tutoring experience. I recently graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in Literary Journalism, so my favorite subject to tutor is English (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar, and Literature), although I am also proficient in Mathematics (below the Calculus level).
Almost all of my activities in college involved education because I'm interested in the schooling system, and, well, I love working with kids! I volunteered at the local Boys & Girls Club, served as a Corps Member for the AmeriCorps program Jumpstart (bringing early education to low-income neighborhoods), tutored kids in ESL while I studied abroad in Rome, and interned at 826DC, an amazingly creative writing-and-tutoring-center (founded by author Dave Eggers) in Washington, DC.
For Jumpstart, I worked one-on-one with a set of 3-4 year olds. I even created bi-weekly lesson plans and taught them to the entire preschool class.
At 826DC, I headed the after-school tutoring program, which offered free tutoring to students ages 5-18. I also helped high school students with college essay prep, middle school students with making their own historical podcasts, and elementary school students with storytelling and narrative.
In terms of teaching, I favor an interactive, hands on approach and try to make learning as fun as possible by mixing up the methods. Worksheets, games, props, and even songs will definitely be utilized.
I look forward to hearing from you!
