I am a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I have been a professional tutor for over 10 years. I am now applying to university in order to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. I tutor Pre-K through 12th grade students in all subjects, using a set of highly beneficial programs. These programs help students struggling with phonics, reading comprehension, spelling, writing, grammar, vocabulary, math, history, science and study skills.
I have worked with many children who have speech-delays or language disorders. I use a program that helps students to develop their receptive and expressive language. My students have made great gains in the areas of: vocabulary, ability to follow directions, ability to use correct grammar when speaking and overall language comprehension.
I am familiar with the needs of dyslexic children and use several specialized programs designed for students with reading difficulties to help teach students how to read and spell at grade level. I have helped many students turn Ds and Fs into As and Bs.
Over the years, I have helped many ESL/ESOL students, both children and college students. I help my students by proofreading their schoolwork; promoting correct pronunciation when reading aloud; working on vocabulary-building and reading comprehension and writing skills.
I have served as a learning coach for students who are homeschooling using the online public school academy, K-12. I prepare for lessons, teach lessons and help students with K-12 schoolwork. If you are looking to homeschool this school year, feel free to e-mail me with any questions and I would be happy to talk to you about how I can be a learning coach for your student as well.
I am very dedicated to helping students reach their full potential at school. I work very hard to ensure that my students improve their skills. At the first session, I give my students a pre-assessment test to find out what areas we need to focus on. Then I recommend certain materials based on each student's needs. These materials usually include practice workbooks, research-based programs and other materials that I know will improve the student's skills.
I do not waste time during sessions. I use Session Summary Sheets to provide parents with a detailed description of the concepts we work on during each session, as well as goals for the next session and any recommendations I may have. You are welcome to be present during each session, if you would like.
In addition to providing quality tutoring, I also like to establish communication with your child's teacher. I introduce myself as your child's tutor and then ask what they think we should be focusing on during tutoring sessions. This e-mail communication is important because we can find out exactly what the teacher thinks we should work on based on performance on classwork, homework and tests.
I am an experienced, committed and reliable tutor. I offer both one-on-one tutoring and also group tutoring at a lower rate. My private tutoring rate varies depending on your location. Feel free to inquire regarding what your rate would be. Clients in the Chino Hills/Diamond Bar area have the lowest rates because they are closest to me. I also offer sibling rates and free sessions for referrals.
I am now offering online sessions via video chat, such as FaceTime or Skype. As a result of the clarity of the video chat, I am able to teach these sessions exactly as if I were sitting next to the student. I am able to teach the specialized programs that I use and even do homework help via video chat. My online students really enjoy the video chat sessions because they are low-pressure and utilize technology such as the iPad or computer. Upper graders especially like doing tutoring online. My online students enjoy much lower rates than my in-home students because I do not need to drive to their homes. Online tutoring is great for out-of-area students who really need the specialized programs that I offer, but are too far away for me to come to their homes. Right now, I am offering one free online session to new clients so that they can decide if online tutoring is right for them. We can also meet in person for the pre-assessment and for the first few sessions and then transition to online tutoring.
If you have any questions about the programs I use, homeschooling or online tutoring, please feel free to send me an e-mail.
Thank you for your time,
Gabrielle
