Elementary School through College Tutoring, Windows and MS Office

Get the help you need with English, Math, and Science, from Elementary School students to college students. I had the unique experience of tutoring for four years in Japan. This experience has provided me with the ability to seek different ways to get a concept across to students. If one way doesn't work, I look for another way. When my children were in elementary school, I was a regular classroom volunteer. In that setting, I helped children learn to read and do math. Studying with other people is a great way to reinforce classroom learning. In college, I often had a study group, in fact, in some of my classes, other students asked to be in my study group.

I can also help you with your computer. Learn to use Microsoft Windows and Office in a quiet, comfortable setting with no pressure. I have an MBA and over 16 years of experience using MS Office and Windows in an office setting. My co-workers in every company for which I have worked came to me when they couldn't figure out how to do something in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I can also teach you to use QuickBooks. I will teach you to use a computer and the software in short, concise lessons, or in a half-day or whole-day session. You will do the "driving" and I will be there to assist you. We can start with the basics, or we can jump to what you need to learn. It's up to you!

Microsoft Excel

I have used Excel in a business setting for over 17 years. I can teach you to create spreadsheets and workbooks, use formulas, to format your spreadsheets, sort and manipulate data, create charts and graphs, insert links to other documents, and much more.

General Computer

I have been using a PC in a student and a business setting since 1991. My first computer was purchased before Windows was released. I am able to teach you to work in all versions of Microsoft Windows through Windows 7. I can teach you to change the appearance of your Windows desktop, change the size of your icons, arrange the icons on the desktop, add applications to your taskbar, install and remove software, and much more.

Microsoft Word

I have used Word in a business setting for almost 20 years. I can teach you to create and format documents, add graphics, insert tables, add tables of contents, track changes to your documents, create headers and footers, include page numbers, and much more.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have used PowerPoint in a business setting for over 10 years. I can teach you to create dynamic presentations, format your presentations, add animation and sound, insert clip art and other graphics, insert links to the Internet or other documents, and much more.

Reading

I help students learn to read by using phonics to sound out the words they don't know. This includes learning the sounds of short and long vowels, consonants, beginning consonant blends, and ending consonant blends. I do this using practice sheets, flash cards, and games. In addition, use sight word cards to help them recognize the words so they don't have to sound out each word in a reading lesson. I teach students in a relaxed, non-critical environment using praise and encouragement.

Literature

I have written many papers for college and university classes and I am proud to say that I have never received less than a grade of A on any of them.

PSAT

I have just finished tutoring a high school junior who has raised her PSAT practice test scores from somewhere in the 1300s to 1870.

Elementary Math

I am able to teach your child math using practice sheets, flash cards, and games to help your child learn and enjoy doing math. My focus is to help your child learn math facts by memorization and not counting on fingers. I do this in a very supportive, non-critical way using praise and encouragement.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was a regular classroom volunteer when my children were in elementary school, helping students with reading and math. I also taught English to children for four years when I lived in Japan.

I hold a BS degree in Business Administration and an MBA in Computer Information Systems. I was required to take algebra, finite math, statistics, and calculus courses as part of these programs; I am therefore confident that I can help your student in lower-level mathematics.

Phonics

QuickBooks

I have done bookkeeping for myself and clients using QuickBooks Pro 8, QuickBooks Pro 9, and QuickBooks Pro 12. I am currently teaching two people to use QuickBooks 12 for their businesses. I can create invoices, general journal entries, sales receipts, track inventory, manage bank accounts (enter checks and deposits and reconcile accounts), modify invoices with company logos, etc., generate reports and graphs, and much more.

Microsoft Access

I have used Access databases for many years and I have designed and built Access databases for my employers and for my own use.

Microsoft Outlook

I have used Outlook at work for the past ten years or so. I keep my personal calendar as well as my business calendar in Outlook. I know how to create forms for boilerplate email and frequently sent email. I can make distribution lists and contact lists. I can send invitations to meetings, set importance levels for email, and request voting by email. In the Outlook calendar, I can set recurring meetings and categorize appointments on the calendar.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Windows since 1992. I have used all of the following versions: 3.0, 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, XP, Vista, and 7. I can configure the display, use the control panel, change the volume, pin programs to the status bar, and much more.
