I graduated from UC Irvine in Spring '12 with an English major and a Comparative Literature minor. My cumulative GPA was 3.5, in courses that span Western literature (Arthurian, Victorian, Renaissance, Enlightenment) and other genres (Middle Eastern, Chinese, Indigenous/tribal), as well as poetry, plays, science fiction, short story writing, and marketing.

In high school I scored a 5 in AP English Language and a 4 in AP English Literature. My SAT English was 770 (writing) and 690 (reading), and a perfect 12 on the essay.

For teaching experience, I spent one quarter of college in UCI's Humanities Out There program, which connects students to local high school English classes to teach literature. We taught and analyzed a classic high school level novel (The Scarlet Letter) with junior year students. I also taught middle-school level ESL in Taiwan this past summer. I enjoy helping others brainstorm for essays- finding interesting connections between characters, or between events in the book to general truths or ideologies. If you've already written your essay, I can help you flesh it out and edit grammar and syntax.

Vocabulary

Graduated with an English major from UCI. The college level reading requirements do a great job of improving one's vocabulary. I made flash cards for the SAT a while back, and am currently studying vocabulary for the GRE.

Grammar

I took all honors/AP English classes in high school. I still remember many of the grammar tips and tricks and would be happy to share them.

Reading

Graduated with an English major and Comparative Literature minor from UCI. The college reading list is broad and engaging. I was in all honors/AP English classes in high school, so I've read many of the staple high school required reading books.

Writing

Graduated with an English major from UCI, so I wrote plenty of essays during my four years. I scored A's and B's on all of my papers. Specifically, I took my lower-division writing through a Humanities Core course, and my upper-division writing through a short-story writing class and a class on Arthurian fiction. My SAT essay score was 12.

I used to be a shy child, but I took the initiative in personal development by applying for a student services job in college that put me in front of hundreds of students. After this job, I served as a performance MC for my dance studio and also entered a scholarship beauty pageant, which led me to practice confident speaking and enunciation.
