I have four years experience teaching chemistry and physics at Golden West College at Huntington Beach, Cal State Long Beach,Cypress College and Concordia University. I also have two years experience teaching high school chemistry and physics at St. Jposepha nd St. Paul High School. I am familiar with the California Standard of the subject. I passed the CSET(California Single subject test for high school teachers)for physics and earth science.
I love to teach students with more personal interaction. Science is difficult sometimes when just one concept is not correctly understood. So I think it is very important to make sure the students understand every step on the journey to science.
I have experience tutoring students from Troy High School and Cerritos High School. THe studnets were struggling and I helped them to get decent scores A's and B's for their CP and AP classes. One student who got almost an F for the class got the highest score(98%) for his final after I tutored him for three hours.
My tutoring method is letting the students do their learning. I let them ask questions. I need to know what they do not understand. By telling me what they do not know, they can at least clarify their thoughts. I let them go to the text book to look for answers. I like them to read their textbooks, understand what they missed. After I make sure they understand what was going on, then we attack the problems. Usually I let them redo the problems they had. After they are able to handle old problems, then we start new problems. I always let them say their ideas. Talking is a good way for students to learn instead of just listening especially for verbal learning students. If students got frustrated. I would breakdown the problems to easier parts to make them feel better and easier to learn. I praised them when they accomplished even one tiny step. I believe that people will learn best when they feel they are appreciated.
I believe that everyone can learn science. It just takes longer for some. It is so awesome to be able to understand how nature works. I really enjoy it when student's face light up with their insight and understanding.
