My background consists of an early career in banking and bank software, but transitioned into a writing career as I accepted a position as a technical writer while working for a bank software company. As I familiarized myself with writing standards and techniques, I progressed to other writing activities that include publications specialist with a major university, collaborator on a book about the history of Atlanta (I'm originally from the South), and journalism teacher at the high school level in the Coachella Valley Unified School District. I have also been fortunate enough to teach history, government, economics, and geography at the secondary level. I have successfully taught English, math, computer education, and speech at the career college level at Kaplan College in Palm Springs. I interact well with students and have always been fair but direct with them in learning situations. During my tenure at Kaplan College, I had the privilege of tutoring prospective students as they prepared for admissions tests for college entry, and my success rate was very good.
I have always excelled in athletics, and am a very good tennis player. While teaching in the Coachella Valley Unified School District, I was assistant girls softball coach. I have participated in such diverse sports as football, basketball, baseball, table tennis, and golf, in addition to my concentration in later years on tennis.
My involvement with students is due to my genuine interest in their development as both learners and good citizens of our country. I place a great deal of value on the ability of students to become contributors to society in as many ways as possible, and the better educated they are, the greater their impact on all of us.
