Hello,

I have a BA in English and a BFA in Music Performance as well as a MBA with a specialization in e-business systems. I speak fluent French and English and can get by in a conversation in Spanish. I recently earned the Leading Edge Certification from the San Diego County of Education that qualifies me as a Blended and Online instructor. I honestly don't view myself as a teacher as much as a facilitator. I think we all teach ourselves, we just sometimes need to have the material presented in a way that allows us to absorb it from a perspective that makes the learning easier. I currently work from 11:30-3:30 at a continuation High School in Oceanside, CA. I teach in an independent study program which allows students to work on both core classes and electives in addition to their enrolled classes. Students have 27 core classes in grades 9-12 in English, History, Math and Science.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I received my MBA from National University in 2010 with a specialization in eBusiness Systems. I am also a small business owner and a PT teacher at Oceanside Unified School District. I have extensive experience writing business plans and presenting to small groups.

General Music

I studied Music and Music Performance at both Concordia University in Montreal and York University in Toronto. Music was my minor at Concordia, and then I went on to further my studies as a Vocal Major. I play both guitar and piano moderately well.

Marketing

I have an MBA from National University with a specialization in e-Business systems. My special interest is internet marketing and branding. I have owned a number of businesses and am acutely aware of how important marketing is. In todays' global market, even small companies can compete with the right market plan, and good service of course. Which would be more likely to succeed... an excellent product with an OK marketing plan or an OK product with an excellent marketing plan?

Music History

I studied Music and Music Performance at both Concordia University in Montreal and York University in Toronto. Music was my minor at Concordia and then I went on to further my studies as a Vocal Major. Generally a Music History class focusing on in the Western World music will undoubtedly study Bach, Mozart and Beethoven in detail as these 3 masters established many of the standards for Western music. However, each music style has a unique history of its own that is well forth exploring and many great musicians that contributed to developing the unique style. I am familiar with a researching music history styles from having co-wrote some books, published by Hal Leonard, with master guitarist John Tapella called Challenge The Master's, The British Invasion, Blues and Punk styles for guitar.

Needlework

I find this topic is best taught in a small group setting. I started sewing, knitting, crochet, needlework, embroidery and quilting when I was a young girl. I can send a few pictures.

Sight Singing

I studied Music and Music Performance at both Concordia University in Montreal and York University in Toronto. Music was my minor at Concordia, and then I went on to further my studies as a Vocal Major. Sight singling is challenging but there are some tricks to learn it with either a movable scale or fixed scale.

Songwriting

I have a minor in Music from Concordia University in Montreal Canada, I then went to York University in Toronto to study Voice Performance in the BFA program. I co-wrote a series of music instruction books with John Tapella called Challenge the Masters, the British Invasion, and Blues Guitar. I am a member of BMI Music World. I have a few song samples I can send. Writing a song is fun and relatively easy using a simple verse-chorus-bridge structure and combination and sticking within boundaries to Bach's rules of scales and chord progression. Getting an artist pick up your song, or making it big... that's is a magic many great songwriters may not always experience. Nina

Study Skills

I currently teach at a high school in Oceanside, California. I am the Credit Recovery teacher and it is my responsibility to offer any of 27 core HS classes to the attending students along with electives. Sometimes every student in my program session is working on a different class. Teaching them good study skills is I think the most important part of my job. I want to create active learners, not just students who will retain facts for a test or final exam.

Voice (Music)

I studied Music and Music Performance at both Concordia University in Montreal and York University in Toronto. Music was my minor at Concordia, and then I went on to further my studies as a Vocal Major. I also took numerous classes in choir and have performed in some musicals. I have had some great coaches and can pass on valuable tips to my students.
