I am an aspiring teacher, recently graduated from Stanford University (B.A. in American studies), qualified to tutor elementary age students in math
arts, as well as college-bound teens in English
(K-5) I have a half a year of experience as a youth educator in after school programs where I work daily with students of all different learning styles and personalities. In one-on-one tutoring, I can guide students in overcoming specific academic challenges and prepare them for weekly testing on core topics. I am familiar with new teaching approaches and strategies in step with district anticipation of the end-of-year Common Core examinations. I place emphasis on long-term development of good study habits, concentration, independent reasoning and understanding of foundational concepts. Personally, I am calm and patient, caring and playful, but also focused and demanding.
(College-bound teens) I am a great resource to maturing writers and thinkers in middle school and high school. Whether studying history or literature
I can help students to: review course material and concepts, read carefully and effectively, deepen literary analysis, tackle the challenges of essay
composition, and write with an individual voice and style. I also can assist students in their preparation for AP/SAT
testing and advise them on the college application
More about me: I have a special passion for the humanities and arts. I want to encourage all pupils to embrace storytelling--to see, feel, laugh and take morals from words and illustrations--and to create and express themselves through drawing
, dance, speech
. I also enjoy presenting kids with problem-solving challenges and puzzles, such engineering vehicles and structures, sudoku, code-breaking, and especially chess
My college coursework covered a variety of subjects--history, political science
/government, literature, and film
--all studies which satisfied my interest in American cultural history. In my free time I like reading
novels, following politics, playing guitar
, tossing the baseball
, and goofing off with my siblings, ages seven and nine.
