Educators say that they can teach you how to learn. The fact is, we all can do this on our own, but we don't know how to apply what we've learned to the materials used to evaluate out knowledge. Having taught at universities and community colleges for the last 15 years, I've written multiple choice and written exams, and assembled documents for primary source based essays in History, Film and Ethnic studies, and a variety of social science related courses. As a result of this experience I can identify subconscious and deliberate biases and assumptions that go into the student evaluation process. In response I've developed brainstorming techniques and organizational exercises that can help you reconcile what you know to the tests that are being used to measure your achievement. While my teaching experiences are on the higher education level, my exercises are adaptable to middle and high school courses, as well as to preparation for state and nation wide standardized tests.
