Most of us, when we take a class, feel that we know the material, but we struggle expressing what we've learned to the assignments and tests used to evaluate out knowledge. Having taught at universities and community colleges for the last 15 years, I've written multiple choice and written exams, and assembled documents for primary source based essays in History, Film and Ethnic Studies, and a variety of social science related courses. As a result of this experience I can explain the objectives that instructors use when they design the student evaluation process. In response I've developed brainstorming techniques and organizational exercises that can help you or your child reconcile the content that you know to the tests that are being used to measure your achievement. While my teaching experiences are on the higher education level, my exercises are adaptable to middle and high school courses, as well as to preparation for state and nation wide standardized tests. When students come to my session having caught up on the readings and lectures, I can make that preparation show up on their assignments.

My background and teaching experience for the last 14 years has mostly concentrated in these subjects as they pertain to the West, urbanism, popular culture, and race. Throughout high school and college I participated in debate and other public speaking events. I was also runner-up in the State Lion's Club Oratory and Extemporaneous speaking tournament in my Senior Year of High School. After graduation I coached my old high school team. Most of the novice teams I taught won their respective debut tournaments. Currently I judge tournaments on North San Diego County.

As a community college instructor in the Liberal Arts, I've taught many students the skills necessary for focusing their attention to the important themes in reading materials, and how to effectively communicate through speech and writing.
