Hi everyone, and thanks for viewing my profile. I sit here with my cockatoo on my shoulder. She is kissing me and talking so sweetly. If a parrot loves me, you are sure to do the same. Parrots are temperamental and picky.
I have been a successful teacher and principal for 30 years combined.
I completed an early retirement due to the needs of my family. I miss working with students and encouraging them toward success. I have unique ways to challenge the students in fun less tedious ways to get the job done.
My years of experience in special ed have taught me that what I present to the students in my school can still be presented to general ed students who need a secondary manner to understand the material and forge ahead in the curriculum. Scaffolding, use of games, mnemonics, visualizations, images, computer generated projects can assist a student in "getting it" when just reading the text, answering the questions and studying do not help the student gain access to the curriculum. I am also skilled in teaching students to pass the CAHSEE exams.
My interest is NOT to tutor secondary math beyond pre-algebra. I am familiar with Lindamood-Bell practices for teaching reading and my philosophy centers on positive reinforcement, respect and humor. Green and Levine are my heroes when it comes to understanding students with ADHD, non-verbal learning disorders and emotional disabilities.
I have been successful in improving behaviors of students via behavioral intervention approaches that increased my graduation rate by 75% over 3 years.
If this is the kind of person you seek, call me- I will tutor throughout North San Diego County.
