The best preparation is to purchase a ACT Prep Guide and work through it. The more practice tests it contains the better.

The strategy is to work the practice tests - use each practice as a "cycle of learning" opportunity. The student works with the tutor on every incorrect answer.

I tutor the student on each incorrect answer: 1) fundamentals behind the problem, 2) how to quickly eliminate answers, 3) common tricks and mistakes, and 4) other ways this topic might be asked in a problem.

The student is instructed to prioritize the help they need based on difficulty to them .

I help students to understand how to solve each problem in the context of a mult. choice test. How to save time - and sometimes not have to fully calculate the problem. The combination of math understanding and "number sense" is powerful for these type of tests.

Algebra is like breathing to me. It is fundamental to all math and science that follows. I enjoy helping students become "fluent" in algebra.

At this level math teachers expect more and have less patience. I'll help you break it down into manageable understandable pieces.

I love calculus. Math is cumulative - it is no different than with calculus. The challenge is learning the new "Calculus way" of looking at functions (instantaneous changes/slopes, areas under curves, etc.), while still getting a heavy dose of Algebra II, Trig and Geometry. It would be a privilege to help you with this classic math class.

As a math major in college I studied and received an A in differential equations even before I switched my major to mechanical engineering. Differential equations is widely used in many of my mechanical engineering courses - like heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and intro to nuclear engineering.

Since math is cumulative, elementary math is crucial to future success. It's a FOUNDATION! I don't know if your "tutoring dollars" can be spent more wisely. It's important to help your child develop "number sense."

After an intro to algebra, suddenly students are asked to think spatially and logically in terms of proofs. This can really throw students for a loop. I help them understand the basis of definitions and proofs. Once they understand the "why"; then the tips and techniques of problem-solving make sense and are internalized. I would enjoy helping your student ace their geometry tests!

Extensive experience tutoring physics/AP Physics. Huge library of worked problems - perfect to illustrate how to solve problems and extra practice for chapter exams and the AP Physics Test.

Algebra is critical to all math/science that follows. Often students struggle with algebra because of "weak formation" in arithmetic when they arrive.

THEREFORE, prealgebra is so critical - very smart to get help at this time!

Love pre-calculus and helping students strengthen their skills before calculus. It would be an honor to assist.

Probability, like Geometry, is a unique area of math & more challenging than most realize. I can help you get by the most common stumbling blocks.

Statistics is one of the most important areas of math and used extensively for anyone going into a science or professional practice like marketing or psychology. Even engineers who study more math than any major other than math majors, must take statistics. I can help you increase your understanding and grades.

I counsel students (and parents) on test preparation, homework completion, time management/calendaring, working with the instructor, working with other students, working extra problems to achieve "fluency" and confidence - among many other related topics. I also did the same for my own daughter who is about to graduate high school. This included younger children struggling to focus on homework exhausted in the evening.

An additional resource is the internet where often solved problems can be found to help with current homework or extra practice problems with answers.

I was such a "math nerd" that I took trig and pre-calculus algebra the summer between my junior and senior years in high school so that I could take calculus as a senior. I will enjoy making trig much easier for you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
