As a student I have always had a love of reading and writing. This was able to shine through in my performance in high school English classes when I advanced to AP classes my sophomore year, to writing the best senior honors thesis for my undergraduate degree at UC San Diego. I have recently obtained my PhD in literature from UC Santa Cruz, and I have taught several writing courses at the university level. I also have been a long-time teacher for the Institute of Reading Development, wherein I've taught over twenty-six courses a summer that focus on youth to adult reading enrichment courses. My specialty is in student writing and assignment deconstruction, time-management, vocabulary-building, and speed-reading skills. I have consulted on many college level final writing portfolios and been responsible for grading at the collegiate level and know what teachers expect at the next level.
I'd be happy to help students become analytical, thoughtful and capable readers and writers. I am also a collegiate sports coach that has ample experience mentoring youth and college soccer players. I pride myself as a role model for student athletes inside and out of the classroom. I look forward to working with you.
