I love helping others to learn, and I have worked professionally as an instructional aide, proctor, and tutor for the past 12 years. In this time, I have helped hundreds of diverse students to learn and achieve their goals, and I believe strongly in the value of education and its benefit to everyone in the community. I also want you to be completely satisfied and confident in my ability to bring about long-term success for you or your student - and so your first hour of tutoring will be free of charge!

I am very calm, patient, and intuitive working with students. I have worked with all ages, and all basic subjects, from first graders learning their ABCs to older adults studying to pass the GED. This has helped me to adapt to particular learning styles and treat both children and adults with the respect that all learners deserve.

My particular strengths include:

Microsoft Word

I am a MOS Certified Microsoft Word Expert, and I have helped hundreds of students to take charge of this often-used, but rarely mastered program. I can also teach you to apply higher-level design layouts and desktop publishing skills which will make your documents shine!

ESL/ESOL

ESL is one of my best subjects - any level! Beginning to advanced, I can help improve your English.

Adobe Photoshop

From beginning to intermediate, I can help you learn everything you need to know to become a budding digital photographer or graphic designer.

GED

I was a proctor and gave orientations for the GED, so I am very familiar with subject matter, requirements, and upcoming changes to the test.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored elementary students in an after-school homework center that served multiple schools throughout San Jose. Also, I served as an Instructional Aide for MetroED adult classes that dealt with the same subject matter and competency levels as K-6.

Study Skills

I was an instructional aide in a high school class for 5 years, helping students make up credits to graduate. I helped many of them improve their study skills, organization, and confidence. I often counseled them to understand the value of achieving actual understanding as opposed to superficially aiming to pass a test. Often what students need most is to understand why learning is important, and how it is relevant to their lives.

Desktop Publishing

I have an AS Degree in Digital Media Design from Evergreen Valley College. I also worked for 5 years at the same school as a computer lab assistant for desktop publishing, graphic design, and Microsoft Office classes.

Microsoft Windows

In addition to an AS degree in Digital Media Design, I have used Microsoft Windows extensively for over 20 years. Beyond familiarity, I have helped hundreds of students (and teachers!) to better understand the operating system and common software. I have tutored individuals both in schools and privately, as well as given class presentations.

Speech

My specialization in speech is in regards to pronunciation, especially among students learning English as a second language. From five years working as an ESL Instructional Aide for MetroED, I am well versed in common pronunciation issues as well as understanding cultural differences in pronunciation from around the world. I love improving a student's confidence in conversational ability!
