I view tutoring as challenging and rewarding. I believe tutoring needs to be a continual dialogue between the learner and tutor. For me, a tutor's job is to listen as much as to give information. The learner has to communicate whether information is understood and the tutor has to listen so the learner can communicate. So my job includes creating an atmosphere that encourages a learner to describe what they understand whether that be with words or numbers or drawings, etc. As a tutor I listen to find out the learning style of a person as well as whether they understand the information we are discussing.
I graduated college with a degree as a mathematics teacher with a science minor. I taught mathematics in Chicago, IL, Oakland, Ca, for the department of the Army in Germany and for the El Paso Comunity College, TX. I returned to college at the University of Texas at El Paso and earned a degree in Educational Psychology. My career transitioned to the Computer Industry. I found that the Computer Industry requires many of the skills and thinking processes used in mathematics; I have been using my mathematics skills and abilities during my work experiences in the Computer Industry. I want to use my knowledge and teaching abilities to assist people who want and /or need to master mathematics skills.
