My name is Marina, and I always loved the amazing logic of mathematics.
In 1997, I received my bachelor's degree in engineering from the Technical University of Moldova. Soon after this, I moved to Kuwait where I had a chance to obtain my certificate in education from University of Sunderland (UK). I've been teaching mathematics in the English School Fahaheel in Kuwait from 2003 until 2010. The British educational system does not separate mathematics into prealgebra, algebra, geometry, etc., but they still cover the same material.
My duties included, but were not limited to, teaching sets of different abilities in KS3 mathematics, preparing students for their IGCSE exams, both core and extended levels, in KS4 and teaching mechanics I and II in KS5. (I believe it corresponds to SAT level in American education system.) In 2007, I received praise for the highest IGSCE early entry results for the group of students I taught for four consecutive years.
In 2011, I had the opportunity to teach AS core mathematics (trigonometry, calculus, geometry), while tutoring groups of 2-4 students, and occasionally students from American schools with IB program at a private institute in Kuwait.
At the moment, I tutor prealgebra, algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus and occasionally calculus at Valencia Tutors in Canyon Country.
I think tutoring is a chance for teachers to meet individual student's needs more efficiently and to develop a level of trust between the teacher and a student which will help the student to be more confident in his or her abilities.
My teaching approach can be viewed as firm and tenacious in pursuit to make even the most challenging students to understand mathematics and students did appreciate the results of this approach in a long run.
In addition to mathematics, I have also had interest in learning languages - English, German, Russian (my native language) and occasionally worked as a language instructor at various private schools.
If you are interested in what I have to offer, I will be happy to help with your or your child’s studies.
