My name is Elaine. I recently graduated from UCLA with a 3.9 GPA. I was an Economics major and English minor.
Now that the formalities are out of the way, my theory about learning is that learning is a process of putting external facts and theories into one's own terms. While pure memorization might be beneficial in the short term, the gain from understanding why something works the way it does is infinitely more rewarding. When that light finally turns on and all the intricacies of a previously difficult subject are laid bare, I can promise that the resulting feeling will make you smile. It is that feeling that I want to share with other people. And so, my tutoring methods are geared toward finding ways to express abstract theories in relatable terms and experiences to students through which they develop their own understanding of that theory.
