Hi, my name is Zach and I just moved to Campbell, CA, from the Boston area. I am the oldest of three brothers and graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut with a degree in psychology. I began my teaching career as a substitute teacher before becoming a full-time instructor leading a transition kindergarten class. I also spent several summers as a camp counselor, teaching basketball and other recreational activities, while acting as a role model for children ages 7-16.
Over the past several years I have worked with a wide range of subjects and challenges both in learning centers and as a private tutor. I have built long standing relationships with families and students, whom I continue to help both in and out of the classroom. I have experience helping younger children with basic learning skills, among them reading, writing, and math. I have also coached children who needed social behavioral help, including those with Attention Deficit Disorder and other developmental disorders. I am also certified in ESL.
My approach is one of listening and patience, allowing me to form a rapport with students of all ages. I am friendly and outgoing and have found that a sense of humor often will diffuse anxiety caused by difficult subjects. But I also believe each individual is unique and will work with parents on what is a mutually beneficial way to best help their child.
Additionally, I have written for several websites over the past six years, including my own blog. I have worked with high school students on college submissions and find that creative format a wonderful tool for finding one's identity. I have tutored many college students and have substantial experience working with grammar, vocabulary, test preparation, book reports, and the five-paragraph essay outline so often requested by teachers. Over the past year I supplemented my online writing work with private coaching and as a math tutor for a popular learning center where I worked with up to three children at a time. I also ran their early learning curriculum.
However, I am most partial to working with students in a one-on-one setting, as it allows the most interaction and opportunity to give an individual the attention he or she needs. I also offer flexible hours and will always do my very best to accommodate any special requests.
Thank you so much for your consideration and I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Zach
