I am CELTA Certified and for ten years taught English as a Second Language to Chinese University students. My students included English and Non-English Majors, Postgraduates, PhD candidates and Professionals. I taught primarily Oral English but also grammar, reading and writing, using the New Interchange Volume 2 curricula, lessons I developed and other resources.
I enjoyed giving individualized attention and guidance to students in developing their skills so they could effectively communicate in the English Language. Many of them were also eager to learn more about the American Culture. All of my classes consisted of students divided up into groups of 4 or pairs, with dialogue practicing and role play exercises.
Individual tutoring was given to students during my office hours and when students visited my wife and I in our apartment. These exchanges also provided a lesson for us to learn many things about the Chinese culture. Some students tutored me in Chinese, and I continue to study it. In fact, I am more confident in speaking it.
As a Bay Area resident, the number of migrating Asians is astounding, and the need for them to learn English is in high demand. I welcome the opportunity to use my teaching skills to help individuals who want to learn English and look forward to making new friends.
