About me -
For going on nearly 20 years I have worked as a content creator - photography
, video, writing
, even a bit of painting
. It is what I have always enjoyed doing and what are my passions.I have been lucky enough to work on a wide range of projects from Grand Prix racing in Macau to lifestyle photography for major consumer electronic companies to good old fashioned printing images in a darkroom. Sharing my knowledge and teaching others what I have learned in my career has become a very rewarding addition to my skill set and one I look to share here.
About my skills -
For the last 8 years China has been my home and where I have been able to further develop my skills in photography, writing, content creation, and training to their fullest.
In 2006 I was hired by an outsourcing firm in Guangzhou, China. Little did I know that this job would require me to develop skills ranging from managing personnel to producing to working with overseas clients. I continued to work in creative outsourcing for nearly three years up to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
During the Olympics I returned to working freelance with several multinational production companies throughout China as a photographer, writer and live camera operator. After the Olympics I began working heavily in Chinese
media as a writer, beginning a relationship with the Foreign Languages Press. We have completed and published six book about China so far. Also, I can cook some really good Chinese food now!
About my teaching style -
Part of my career has been mentoring those I work with. I was lucky enough to have great mentors and have adopted some of what worked from them. The central tenant to my style is "doing". Together we will go out there and create from the get go. "Fire, fire, fire!" is something you will here from me a lot - our cameras are tools to be used and getting past the fear of technology and making it work for us is key. I like to share everything I have learned. There are no secrets - and finding out what makes an image amazing, how to see, how to deconstruct is key to my teaching style as well. My goal is to get you creating compelling imagery, seeing your image through the clutter, and developing the skills to continually create great content from the start.
