Hi! My name is Faye, and I am an aspiring educator. I graduated with honors from the University of Rochester, where I double-majored in Applied Mathematics and Chemistry, and I recently received a Master of Science in Bioengineering from UCLA. My subject specialties include mathematics, chemistry, and biology in addition to preparation for the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GED.

My teaching experience ranges from interning in elementary and middle school classrooms to working as a teaching assistant (TA) for fourteen courses over the past six years. I received the prestigious Carl A. Whiteman, Jr. Teaching Award from the University of Rochester for my work as a TA. Here is a sample of an anonymous review a student chose to provide on my teaching at UCLA:

“Faye was an excellent TA! She was very knowledgeable and presented the material in a very clear and organized way. She was very friendly and approachable and got to know each of her students. She provided extra homework problems, suggested readings, and review sessions to help her students. Great TA!”

I will work diligently by your side to ensure a thorough understanding of any concepts you hope to master. I take it as my responsibility to help you gain the skills and confidence necessary for learning both inside and outside the classroom. My teaching approach is down-to-earth and individually-molded based on a student’s preferred learning style.

All of my first appointments with students are completely free consultations on the material that will need to be covered. This is a perfect time to see if we are a good fit for each other and to outline the goals we hope to achieve. The consultation will also give me the information I need to prepare extra review material for you.

My schedule is flexible and I will do my best to accommodate changes in session times. I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but I will offer make-up sessions as necessary.

We can discuss meeting places for our tutoring sessions on a personal basis, since every student will have different needs and schedules.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions on my qualifications or availability. I am really looking forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your learning goals!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I recently participated in UCLA's California Teach program to promote inquiry-based learning in elementary and middle school classrooms. I worked with third, fourth, and sixth graders over five months helping mainly with science and mathematics instruction. I also had the opportunity to work on reading, writing, and social studies. My experience as a camp counselor for girls ages 6-15 at a bilingual (French and English) camp has also taught me the patience and compassion needed for working with children of all ages and abilities. On a more personal note, I worked extensively with my younger brother who has ADHD and learning disabilities throughout his time in school.

Linear Algebra

I have a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Rochester. I received an A in my college linear algebra course and have subsequently worked as a Teaching Assistant for Linear Algebra at UCLA for two quarters.

Public Speaking

I have extensive experience as a public speaker. I sung and acted in musicals from the age of 9. I performed with my church's speech choir for many years, and was even given the opportunity to give a sermon to the entire congregation. As the president of my high school's ambassador association, I led tours of the building and spoke to parents about the various programs and activities available to students. I spoke at full staff meetings at my high school to promote my organization, which helped me bolster my confidence in front of big crowds. As a TA for fourteen courses, I have become comfortable speaking in front of numerous people and ensuring sufficient projection and clarity for large rooms.

Study Skills

I have a M.S. in Bioengineering from UCLA (GPA: 3.97) and I graduated with honors from the University of Rochester with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and a B.A. in Chemistry (GPA: 3.73). I believe my organizational and study skills are impeccable after 19 years of schooling. I know the best methods for note-taking from a job I had with a note-taking service during college. In addition, I worked tirelessly with my younger brother who has ADHD and learning disabilities throughout his time in school, thus learning how to adapt to different learning styles. The two pedagogy courses I took for my TA positions at the University of Rochester and UCLA taught me the best methods to help students study and learn.
