I am 34 years old and graduated from The University of Buffalo in 2001 with a B.A. in Media Studies. My main passion growing up was writing and literature though I also succeeded at Math and Social Studies classes. Since graduating from college I've moved to Southern California to work in the Film industry which I've been doing ever since at a post production facility.
Though I have not continued with my own education, I have remained firmly planted in academics by assisting both my wife (completing her bachelor's degree in Business Administration) and my stepson (recently completed the 9th grade). My stepson is diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of high-functioning autism) and I have been helping him with his education since he was in the 1st grade. I have stayed very adept in K-12 math and proficient at college algebra. I have continued my passion for English by assisting my wife and son with proofreading and necessary editing of any written school assignments. I love reading fiction novels and have grown very fond of young adult literature as I read all books that my stepson reads to assist him with his reading comprehension. I attempt to focus on techniques for learning and different methods of improving long-term memory, often through comparison and visualization.
While I have no professional teaching experience, I feel that my general education and experience at home has given me many tools to help other young students.
Aside from reading, my other hobbies are crossword puzzles and playing poker. I enjoy activities that challenge the mind and keep me sharp. I am also a great sports fan, specifically baseball and football. Newer hobbies I've picked up over the years are gardening (vegetables, fruits and herbs) and cooking. I love challenging myself to learn new things and being able to see the results and share them with my family.
