My background includes a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Upon graduation, I was employed at American Electric Power, a Fortune 500 company, where I led hundreds of hours of training for technicians in the use of engineering design software. I also developed training materials for the classes I taught. In addition to training others, I used applied math and science to solve real-world utility design problems so I have a distinct understanding of how to answer the questions that cross everyone's mind during a math course, "Why does this matter?", "When will I ever use this?"

Algebra 1

Algebra is the study of the rules of operations and relations in variable math. The concepts include terms, polynomials, equations and algebraic structures.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 builds on the topics explored in Algebra 1. These topics include: real and imaginary numbers, inequalities, exponents, polynomials, equations, graphs, linear equations, functions and more.

For me, the skills gained in Algebra 2 were the very foundation of my study in Civil Engineering. I am able to make the real world connection between what is studied in the subject and how it applies outside of the classroom.

Geometry

Geometry is the study of shape, size, figures and properties of space. As a civil engineer, I have had extensive working knowledge of geometry concepts which I can use to help bring real-world application to the problems presented in this branch of math.

Prealgebra

The objective of pre-algebra is to prepare the student for the study of algebra.

ACT Math

According to the ACT website, the ACT Mathematics Test is a 60-question, 60-minute test designed to measure the mathematical skills students have typically acquired in courses taken by the end of 11th grade.

In the Mathematics Test, three subscores are based on six content areas: pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry.

Elementary Math

I volunteered in college as a one-on-one mentor with a child struggling with math and reading while in elementary school into middle school. I have also worked with the Georgian Heights Elementary after school program to help prepare 5th grade students for the math portion of the Ohio Achievement Assessment test.

Civil Engineering

I received my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. I was also a member of Chi-Epsilon, the Civil Engineering Honor Society.
