I earned a bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Azusa Pacific University in May of 08. I am currently a math and science teacher at a private school. I plan on attending graduate school to obtain a PhD in Geochemistry where I want to pursue a profession as a college professor in chemistry, as well as conduct research (when my boys get a little older).
My tutoring journey began in college when I would help my classmates in study rooms to understand chemistry better. When people started noticing my chemistry abilities they would ask for my help exclusively. This gave me the confidence to teach as a TA at the university I attend. For two years I taught eight students in the first year of chemistry. This job helped to solidify my ultimate goal in becoming a professor. I also worked for a private tutoring company in Glendora where I helped all grade levels in all levels of math and science.
It really feels good to know I make a difference in peoples lives. I am an outgoing and caring person and my students appreciate those qualities because not only is it hard to ask for help, it's hard to pick up shattered confidence. I have learned that each student desires the opportunity to succeed and it is important for me to facilitate this goal by adapting my teaching styles to their unique learning abilities. My love of learning helped me to realize the work and reinforcements necessary in being successful when there is a lot of pressure and additional factors at hand.
I am two biology classes away from minoring in the subject I just took the classes for my own interests including many geology classes, as well as, oceanography, marine biology, and scuba diving. I am also a dive master and I occasionally help my fathers business in Hawaii which is a scuba diving business, where I take people out on guided dive tours. I have a minor in bible studies from APU and I adore world views and studying the universe and our place in it as a theologian. I also help with GRE, SAT and other standardized test preparation. Where I make outlines summarizing the material and give them to my students as handouts where we fill in the outline together. I create a lesson plan based on the timeline my students provide.
