Cal State Fullerton (Liberal Studies)
I knew I wanted to become a teacher since I was in kindergarten. I was the kid in class that finished all her work and went around helping the other students complete theirs. I graduated Cal State Fullerton with my multiple subject credential for teaching grades K-6 in 2005. I have tutored students (and adults) for over 10 years now.
Teaching has always been my passion since I was a young child. Since I graduated high school, I did everything I could to enrich my knowledge and become a great teacher and mentor. As a teacher and a tutor, I believe that all students are capable of reaching their full potential. As an educator, it is my responsibility to provide the tools students need to succeed. I naturally motivate students and develop in them a passion for learning. I have directly influenced students and helped them achieve what they thought was unattainable. Nothing is more gratifying than showing a student that they can succeed no matter their circumstances.
I have an array of experience teaching and private tutoring. Not only have I been private tutoring on my own for over ten years, I also worked with REACH Professional In-Home Tutoring. I have experience tutoring students in preschool through high school (and even adults). Most of my students struggle in math or reading/writing/grammar. I've also spent years substitute teaching for two school districts in my area. When I student-taught, I taught in Fullerton and Placentia. The first was a 2nd grade class, and the other was a 6th grade G.A.T.E. class. I've also taught in a private school in Los Angeles called Wilshire Private School. There I taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade, enrichment mathematics and computers.
Another passion of mine is working with children with special needs. I have been requested to substitute teach many times in special education classrooms. One of my most beloved occupations was working as a Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapist with students with disabilities—specializing in students with autism in Huntington Beach.
I believe that my strengths include my encouraging nature, compassion towards others, organizational skills, creativity and artistic skill, patience, sense of humor, determination, intelligent, and hard working. Welcome!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My last occupation was with the Ocean View School District in Huntington Beach. I was trained and worked with students with Autism. We used Discrete Trial Training (DTT) with the students. I helped students reach their goals on their IEP. I also have substitute taught and worked as an aide in SDC.
Not only have a past the CBEST test myself, but I have also tutored a number of students/adults on the CBEST. I have all the material needed to complete a proper tutoring session on this subject. So far, every student I have tutored for this test has passed. This is my tenth year private tutoring.
I have tutored students in reading, writing, language arts, science, history and mathematics for the past ten years. I've helped students increase their reading level from below grade level to two grades above grade level in a matter of a few months. I have also helped a student who was getting a "D" in math become valedictorian of her high school. I also feel fit to teach elementary grade levels because I have a multiple subject teaching credential. I've taught grades kindergarten through 8th grade (all subjects), whether it was as a full time teacher or a substitute teacher.
I have a multiple subject teaching credential and went to school at a Christian school which emphasized the importance of cursive. I prefer using handwriting over printing because it looks more professional than printing. I taught a third grader handwriting while tutoring her. She had never learned it before because she was never taught it at her previous school. I taught her each letter first, then we began to write words. I showed her how to connect each word. After she hand-wrote the words, she began writing sentences, then eventually worked her way up to writing paragraphs.
I am very familiar with Microsoft Outlook, because I use it daily at my current job the school district. I not only use it for basics like e-mail (sending, receiving, forwarding, group e-mails, etc.), but also am able to look up my meetings on the calendar, keep connected with my coworkers through the RSS feed, and organize all my information through folders.
I have taught students study skills throughout my teaching and tutoring career. I teach them to find a quiet place to study with little or no distractions. I teach them to use note cards to help them remember factual information. I also teach them to practice the skill they are going to be tested on. For example, if you need to write an essay about the life cycle of a frog as part of your science test, than I would have the student not only draw pictures of the cycle, write note cards, but also actually practice writing the essay itself. I graduated Cal State Fullerton with my multiple subject credential for teaching grades K-6.
