Hello, my name is Linda and I'm a 23 year old student of UC Berkeley who has 4+ years of experience in tutoring. I have tutored all age groups from elementary school kids to college students, and I have taught both private one on one sessions as well as larger groups in academies and tutoring facilities. I have a lot of experience with junior high and high school students from volunteering in various church youth ministry activities, and I try my best to accommodate the students' needs by teaching them in a method that best suits them.
I primarily specialize in teaching math and English of various levels, but having taken and passed over 10 AP tests in subjects such as English language and composition, literature, European and US history, computer science A and B, statistics, and psychology, I may be able to help students in specialized subjects upon request. I have also prepared several students for the SAT, raising their score by a minimum of several hundred points. My personal score for the SAT I was 2190, and for the subject tests, 770 in math II and 740 in literature.
The majority of my tutoring experience has been in essay writing, particularly with foreign exchange students that are in the process of learning English as a second language, but also with students who upon entering high school or college realize that they have never been properly taught how to write. On top of teaching the student how to structurally build an essay, I can also help develop their literature analysis skills as well as review and edit their college admission essays.
I am perfectly aware of what kind of stress that a student may feel under the pressure of rigorous and competitive academics. I am also aware that there are many students who struggle to keep up because they haven't grasped basic concepts due to lack of proper teaching. My goal as a tutor is to not only help the student master the subject that need help in, but also to develop the student's foundations and study habits so that they can become self-sufficient and prepared for when they enter college.
My primary goal will always be to do whatever it takes to help the student find success. It is the most rewarding when I see people become more confident in their own abilities as they witness their own improvement. I'm pretty flexible with scheduling and will always strive to meet the needs of the students, so please don't hesitate to contact me!
