For the past 18 years it has been my joy and privilege to be a classroom teacher to students from kindergarten through high school. What a thrill it is to see some of my first students graduating with their MA!
I enjoy opening up the English language to my eager adult ESL students in the afternoons and evenings. I'm experienced with starting with students who know no English at all and those that would just like some fine tuning on their writing and grammar skills.
During the summers I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach high school literature and grammar on a one-on-one basis with students that wanted to get ahead or just needed a little extra encouragement. As our high school students prepare to take that next important step into college, having a working knowledge of English grammar and literature will help prepare them to be successful on the university level.
I have also spent countless enjoyable hours helping elementary students to learn to love reading and generally making sure students will be well prepared for the next grade level in the fall. Learning should be fun for our lower elementary students. Sometimes putting the multiplication facts on the concrete in chalk keeps the student going when the repetition of flashcards has made him lose his concentration. As the school librarian, I also have a passion for reading and believe the student must be an excellent reader to succeed in college and his chosen profession. I work on finding creative ways of enhancing reading comprehension and retention.
I am eager to see my students succeed.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in the school of religion from a Christian university. I have continued my studies of the Bible for the last 25 years from a wide variety individuals and organizations. It has been my pleasure to teach the Bible to hundreds of ladies and children in group settings, in the classroom, and on an individual basis.
The teaching methods taught and used by the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England are globally accepted and recognized as the finest in the world. As an ESL tutor I use these proven methods and the curriculum that is published by the University of Cambridge. I integrate listening, reading, writing, and speaking activities with a strong emphasis on accuracy and fluency.
Every year I enjoy the opportunity to assist students that desire the challenge of studying for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. This popular spelling bee is now requiring the students to know the definitions as well. I have been working with my students to know the definitions for years. I want my students to make some of these words a part of their daily vocabulary.
It is important for students to know that learning to study effectively will increase their ability to learn more and, as a result, help them make better grades. I teach better techniques for listening, taking notes, reading textbooks, scheduling study time, and taking tests. I also teach how these techniques can apply to classroom or home study.
