Hi,

I am Yasi and I have been tutoring for the past 10 years. I graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from UCLA in 2005. Soon after, I pursed my graduate studies in the field of clinical psychology. I have obtained my Master's and I am still working on my Doctorate in clinical psychology.

Growing up, I had a knack for all subjects. Not only was I good at school, but I loved teaching and working with others. So, as I worked my way through school, tutoring seemed like a natural choice for me. My first student was in 11th grade, and I tutored him in algebra II, chemistry, and English. From there, I slowly built my clientele and found that many of my students needed help with math. Sometimes they were struggling to pass and other times they needed the extra support to get an "A." As a result, I gained extensive experience tutoring math, specifically in algebra I & II, and geometry. However, I also have experience with English, writing, history, and science. More recently, I started tutoring students in undergraduate and graduate level psychology courses. Lastly, I have experience with learning disabilities.

In addition to experience, I strive to teach my students in a way that is simple and motivating. I challenge students to think critically and creatively as I believe that learning and good study habits incorporate more than just memorizing. An effective learner can adapt to new situations and think on his/her feet. This is an important skill not just in learning and test taking, but in life.

Algebra 1

I love to teach Algebra I & II! My first time tutoring this subject was more than 10 years ago! A lot of people are scared of math, but like many things in life, it looks a lot scarier than it is! In fact, as my students become good at math, they start to enjoy the subject!

I help students master algebraic topics such as systems of equations, liner lines and graphing, solving algebraic problems, factoring, etc.

Algebra 2

Algebra II is one of my specialties & also one of my favorite subjects to teach. Given the density of the material, I find that I am often modeling important study habits such as organizing the information for students in a way that is simple and easy to learn. This helps students internalize (take in and make it an integral part of one's self) the organizing role I serve as a tutor.

Geometry

This is one of my specialties. I have tutored both basic & honors/advanced geometry. Proofs are usually the most frustrating and challenging part of geometry for students. However, once students learn to organize, strategize, find patterns, and know the distinctions between the various definitions, theorems, and postulates, they will be better equipped to succeed. I can also help students with other concepts such as area, volume, surface area, circles, etc.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra and algebra 1 often set the foundation for success in math. All of my students have moved on into advanced classes and/or are receiving A's in math.

Psychology

I offer support with editing and organizing literature reviews, various intervention classes such as psychodynamic therapy, specifically object relations and intersubjectivity, and CBT, and courses in various other subjects such as cognitive psychology, psychopathology, clinical interviewing, etc. Clinically, I also have experience with eating disorders, trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety spectrum disorders, and substance abuse.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have planned lessons and taught math and English to classes of 10-15 students in 4-8th grade. I also have one-on-one experience with students K-6th.
