Hello, my name is Nik, and I am currently finishing my master's degree in chemistry at UC Berkeley. During my time at Cal, I have gained much experience teaching at the college freshman/sophomore level. Courses I have been teaching/GSI for include Chem 1A, Chem 4A, and Chem 3A. I have an intimate understanding of the workings of these lab courses and what is needed to garner an A. Additionally, I have tutored high-school level chemistry for several weeks last summer. I truly enjoy helping students learn difficult topics, hopefully giving them motivation to continue studies in the STEM fields. Even if you or your student aren't pursuing a science degree, I can provide assistance and support during your science classes to create a better appreciation for the subject, and a critical-thinking skill set to apply to all problems and homework. Also, I can bring to the table additional resources (books, problems, Internet resources, etc.) to aid in successfully passing the introductory level courses.
My goal as a tutor is to make you feel comfortable with all the material that will appear on the exams. My approach is to gain a rapport by acting as a guide, but not as an "answer-giver". I test the student's confidence about certain problems and topics by first doing them, then gauge their understanding by talking through the material. Conceptually, I will deepen their understanding by holding a discussion or using visual aid. Mathematically, I can setup calculations and the outline the proper approach for analysis. I am located very close to the Berkeley campus, and can hold lessons wherever they are most convenient for students. My hours are flexible, but I prefer afternoon and evenings to hold sessions. My rates are also flexible, and can be decided upon mutually after the first few lessons.
I look forward to meeting and working with you!
