Texas State University in San Marcos (English)
California College of the Arts (Master's)
I earned my TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages) certificate from Oxford Seminars and did my practicum in the classroom at St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX. I received my BA degree in English at the Texas State University and my Masters of Fine Arts in Writing degree at the California College of the Arts in 2014.
In the summer of 2013, I was an English mentor at California College of the Arts supporting the Summer Writing Skills Workshop Intensive, and the International Grad Prep Intensive program. I became interested in being an English tutor when I started tutoring one to one back in 1991. At the time, I lived with a host family while I volunteered as a tutor and studied Korean Language and Culture. I tutored adults from a range of backgrounds from business people, housewives, professional artists and university students. I enjoyed it so much, that I continued to seek out ESL students for tutoring when I later returned to the USA.
In 1995, I was an instructor/volunteer coordinator for WATER (Women’s Access To Electronic Resources) demystifying the process of video and radio production for women who wanted to tell their stories electronically. I taught them how to use the camera, and edit and print their footage for screening. Those who showed an interest in working the studio camera at the Austin Community Television studios (ACTV) would be invited to work crew for the various programs in which I technically directed for producers.
I continued to tutor at least two ESL students a month throughout my life, and participated as a conversation leader for a group of seven students for The Texas Intensive English Program in 2004. The students got a kick out of the periodic screenings in my home, after which we would have animated English discussion and review. FUN!
We started hosting TIEP students in our home since around 2003, I would be available for tutoring for those students as well as showing them sites in Austin and San Antonio. On one occasion, two students and I went on a road trip from Austin, Texas to Orlando, Florida…singing songs from our various towns. I dropped them off at Disney World, continued on to Ft, Lauderdale, Florida for a conference/retreat and picked them up on the way back. That was an unforgettable and fun trip!
I currently live in Berkeley, California working on my first memoir for publication. I support my work through a regular office job at California College for the Arts in the President's Office.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have produced three short films for a 48 hour film project. I worked as an A/V Tech for a school in which one of my tasks was to produce industrial, instructional, promotional, and event videos over a period of 5 years. I worked in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier and a host of other NLE programs. I used high end cameras and studio camera when I produced weekly shows with community television.
I have been computer literate on both Mac OS and Windows PC since 1995. I am considered tech savvy. I taught technology to women in a nonprofit (Women's Access To Electronic Resources) for three years. I am the "go to" person among my friends and family for computer issues. I was an Audio Visual Technician for a school in Texas for five years. I have used computers daily as an Administrative Assistant and a student (city college, undergrad and grad school).
I own a Power Mac and use it everyday. I also use Macintosh computers at school. I learned on a Macintosh and PC. I prefer Macintosh for video, music or any other graphic project. One of my jobs in May was to help students print large graphic projects from their Macintosh.
I learned video hands-on in 1994. Just one year later, I taught video production in a hands-on style, and continued to do so for the next four years. I also took RTF classes in college (Radio, Television, and Film theory and production).
Now I work as an Audio Visual Technician, part of my job was to make various types of video (instructional, promotional, and documentation). I know Final Cut Pro, and have used Adobe Premier, and long ago I used Media 100. I am comfortable in both PC and Mac environments. Lately, I have been using iMovie for quick video uploads for YouTube.
