I have worked as a tutor with inner-city junior high and high school students through Columbia University's Double Discovery center, and have taught introductory German to undergraduates and graduate students at UC Berkeley. Both involved extensive one-on-one work with students; I was available to answer their questions, engage them in conversation and advise them on how best to improve their study skills. I am also an English literature content writer for an online study guide company that specializes in student-oriented communication. Writing for this company has taught me how to remain relevant and grounded when trying to explain complex material.
With my background as a teacher, tutor, and student, I am well qualified to work with my students on literature and language arts, and to prepare them for the reading and writing portions of the SAT. I am equally qualified to tutor students interested in improving their German and students who are preparing for the German SAT subject test.
The competition involved in getting into a top college or program has reached unprecedented heights. Tutors not only need to improve their students' performance, they also have to have the know-how that comes with navigating the world of higher education. In addition to my experience and academic credentials, it's this know-how that I would bring to my students. I can impart knowledge and skills to my students while also showing them the value of what they're acquiring and the doors it will open for them. I am prepared to motivate my students to learn, and learn better.
