I am a graduate student at UC Berkeley in the Transportation Engineering department. I completed my undergraduate also at Berkeley in Civil Engineering, so I understand the long-term benefits of a strong work ethic. I am confident in my technical background - I achieved an 800/800 for the math section in both the SAT and GRE. However, along with my academic background, I know I can bring to the table some unique talents that will help promote a positive learning environment. I have started and run my own class so I have experience designing a syllabus and material planning. Moreover, I was an assistant instructor who assisted 30 students through intense term projects, so I have experience advising and guiding students on a weekly basis. I have also attended conferences and workshops on instruction strategies.
I believe a great tutor is not only smart, but has strong communication skills. My position as a staff counselor for the UC Berkeley orientation program gave me the privilege of providing academic advice to incoming students while addressing the various concerns of their parents. I will bring the same cultural competency that I brought to the 4,000 students I worked with to my clients. I learned how to detect and address underlying problems from simple conversations and to always treat everyone with the utmost respect.
My brother has been an amazing mentor and tutor to me throughout my life, and I believe that every child deserves that same support and connection. That being said, I am results oriented; so I am only happy when your goals are met. Since I am too a student, my schedule is flexible. I know I can help create an amazing learning experience and I look forward to meeting you!
