I am a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and Linfield College. I am currently located in the Berkeley area while my husband works on his Graduate degree. Throughout my academic endeavors, I have had an extremely positive experience, which I use to help other students experience the same. I have a degree in history, accounting, and 2/3 of the course work for a Master’s in Education. I believe that most students struggle with school due to a lack of confidence, which holds them back from learning independently. My goal as a tutor is to help build their confidence in the areas where they struggle, so that they can overcome the hurdles they face in school.
I have had the opportunity to work with students ranging from preschool to college from many different backgrounds. While student-teaching history and reading, I helped run a summer reading program and managed an after-school reading program for struggling middle school students. With encouragement and one-on-one attention, I believe that any student can overcome the frustration they experience in a subject. I have worked with a number of students with special needs, including ADD, and have a good deal of experience working with schools and families to create a plan that works for each student.
I am currently taking on students. I have a relatively flexible schedule. I know it can be hard to find a person online for such an important and often sensitive position, and so I welcome the chance to speak by phone or interview in person before beginning. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to begin a conversation about how tutoring might work for your student.
