I am writing to express my enthusiastic interest in joining WyzAnt as a tutor!
I am a certified ESL teacher, also certified to administer the BEST Plus English evaluation test. I have a strong commitment to the promotion of the arts and letters for the greater good, and a B.A. in Languages and Linguistics. I'm fluent in written/spoken Spanish, with a foundation in French and Italian. I have been teaching and tutoring students of a wide variety of nationalities for more than ten years.
Throughout university I worked closely with at-risk girls ages 5-14 through the Girls Inc. after school program. I also ran language workshops for Latin American immigrants working new to the community. I spent several years in Chile, where I led writing and photography workshops, ran bilingual tours for the Pablo Neruda Foundation, taught English classes to business professionals of all proficiency levels, and held training sessions for new English teachers. Essentially, I gained invaluable experience as a resident of a foreign country, and was able to learn the skills necessary to relate to individuals from every sector of the social strata, a necessary ability that I bring with me to the complex and challenging environment of urban America.
It has been a pleasure to facilitate positive change in the lives of young and adult learners. I love teaching because I enjoy imparting my love of language and scholarship and my belief in the intrinsic worth of each and every one of my students. In my tutoring sessions, I work to develop a coaching series that is uniquely tutored to each student's needs, drawing from a variety of sources, including textbooks, workbooks, and popular culture, to connect academic subject matter and language learning to students' particular interests and learning styles.
I look forward to hearing from you!
