I’m a former assistant professor of English with over 10 years experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
I earned my B.A. from UC Berkeley, and my Ph.D. from Cornell University. I taught full-time as an English professor from 1993-2002 at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Union College in Schenectady, NY.
The subjects I tutor include: English grammar and composition, English literature, rhetoric and comparative literature, academic writing and publishing, history, German, Latin, classics, and philosophy.
I may be the perfect tutor for you, and for two reasons. First, I’ve been a successful student myself, graduating with High Honors from UC Berkeley, winning a DAAD fellowship for university study in Germany, and earning my Ph.D. from Cornell. Second, I’m an accomplished professor and published scholar, teaching and writing about the very subjects I will be tutoring for you.
Whether you’re a high school student applying to college, an undergraduate applying to graduate school, or you just need some extra help with a college course your taking, I can be your secret to success. Let me help you improve your reading and writing skills, your test performance, or your college or graduate-school application essay. Contact me today and we can design a tutoring plan to meet your specific needs.
Non-native English speakers are welcome. I take a special interest in students from diverse language and cultural backgrounds because I know firsthand what it’s like to live and study in a second language. My second language is German: in 1984-1985 I lived and studied at the Universität Göttingen thanks to a fellowship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). I will always treasure the friends I made during my time in Germany.

I'm a published scholar with 10+ years experience teaching English literature at the university level. I’m well qualified to teach all periods, genres, and authors, and I’m a special expert in the older periods (Beowulf, Chaucer, and Shakespeare).
I studied German at U.C. Berkeley and the Universität Göttingen, earned my Ph.D. in English and German literature from Cornell University, and taught courses in German literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
I tutor all aspects of German (reading, writing, and speaking), and I’ve had good results using Hueber’s Schritte International.
