Hi there:
I’m a former assistant professor of English with over 10 years experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
I earned my B.A. from UC Berkeley, and my Ph.D. from Cornell University. I taught full-time as an English professor from 1993-2002 at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Union College in Schenectady, NY.
Since returning to the SF Bay Area in 2006, I’ve worked as a content writer in higher-education publishing, a German tutor and translator, a freelance copywriter, and an online English writing tutor to Korean students from Yonsei University. But my passion has always been teaching.
The subjects I tutor include: ACT and SAT test preparation, English grammar and composition, English literature, rhetoric and comparative literature, academic writing and publishing, history, German, Latin, classics, and philosophy.

First, I’ve been a successful student myself, graduating with High Honors from UC Berkeley, winning a DAAD fellowship for university study in Germany, and earning my Ph.D. from Cornell. My second language is German: in 1984-1985 I lived and studied at the Universität Göttingen, thanks to a fellowship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). I will always treasure the friends I made during my time in Germany.
