Greetings, and thanks for considering me as a potential Mandarin and Music tutor. I majored in Mandarin Chinese and linguistics at UCSC and graduated in 2005. After graduation I returned to China for a final third stay, this time for a year of intensive language immersion. I tried to get the most out of that year and in doing so I ended up living in a cold, dingy apartment with some art students in Chengdu with whom I could speak Chinese all the time. I reached a relatively high level of proficiency, and during that year I was often the only student in my classes. That coursework culminated in the mandated Chinese proficiency exam (The HSK, Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi). I have always loved teaching and feel like it comes naturally - while I was in China I taught English to elementary school students, and a business English course to young professionals. Since I returned from China I have tutored on the side to private clients throughout the Bay Area. One of my biggest strengths in this field is my love of languages - apart from Chinese I also study French, Spanish and Swedish.
Music is my other main interest. I began playing piano at the age of 6 and now I play the guitar (electric and acoustic), bass, and drums. I am currently studying music theory at Laney college and have availability for new music students.
