I have been tutoring students of varying ages and skill level for the past ten years, in addition to coaching and instructing both young people and adults in a variety of activities. I have always enjoyed academia and relish in the opportunity to help others, be it students, peers, or my elders, develop and hone new skills.
My tutoring experience includes acting as an SAT (Math, Verbal, and Writing) Instructor for Kaplan, Inc., tutoring high school students in several subjects of math (mainly Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 & 2), assisting elementary-aged students in general studies and homework help, and tutoring my classmates in history and professional writing/proof-reading while I was in college. I've also worked as a counselor, sports coach, and sailing instructor at a Texas summer camp for the past three summers, and I current serve as a re-building volunteer in New Orleans, a role in which I interact with visiting volunteers from age 16 to 80 and instruct them in general construction, carpentry, and painting skills.
I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Architecture and a B.A. in Philosophy in the spring of 2010. I am well-versed in Adobe Design Software (primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), and can instruct and assist with those programs, in addition to drawing, sketching, and drafting (hand and computer). My Philosophy background also gives me experience with analytical thinking, reading, and writing, and I am happy to tutor in areas involving those as well.
My past instructors, fellow educators, and students, have told me I am very relatable and connect easily with my students. I aim to create an easy-going environment that presents material from the student's perspective and identifies the misunderstanding in a concept rather than in a particular problem. I enjoying helping young people achieve their academic goals and look forward to assisting you or your student! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was trained in Adobe InDesign during my architectural coursework in pursuit of my Bachelor of Science in Architecture. I have a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Maryland School of Architecture, and as a graduate of this design-based program, I have taken many courses that have both taught and required the utilization of Adobe Photoshop and its Creative Suite affiliates. I have produced countless drawings, diagrams, and architectural renderings by way of Photoshop that have led to a 3.9 (on a 4.0 scale) GPA in my undergraduate work. I have a portfolio of architectural work that showcases my Photoshop abilities available for view if desired.
Further, I have worked as a photographer at both a regional publication and a summer camp, and in these roles, have utilized Photoshop to alter and edit my digital work. Further still, I interned in the Design and Production Department of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, where I used Photoshop in assisting the Head Lighting Designer with renderings and other visual production. I do freelance work in graphic design and portfolio making, and a sample of my photographic and visual work can be viewed online by request.

I have worked as a photographer for a summer camp since 2010, taking between 300 and 1000 photographs every day and editing and uploading all photos to a master website. I have experience working with digital SLR, polaroid, and film (35 mm and 120 mm) cameras.
