American History

American History is an ingredient in understanding today's United States. I will concentrate on tutoring different time periods in American History and their relevance to today. I strongly encourage critical thinking and reading of historical resources.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is important both in the world of work and leisure. I teach vocabulary by breaking down words into their roots. I also teach vocabulary in conjunction with reading texts and context. Finally, I believe in dictionary skills.

Grammar

Grammar is an essential part of any language. I believe in tutoring correct Grammar as it is expected in the professional world to speak correctly. I believe in Grammar games especially with younger children.

European History

European History is one of the foundations upon which American History is built. In my tutoring I emphasize important events in Europe, their relationship to each other and their influence on the world.

German

I speak, read and write German fluently as I grew up in Switzerland. I teach foreign languages in a very practical way. I believe in as much immersion as possible.

Reading

Reading is one of the most important elements of education. I tutor reading as a tool to understand material and as a joy of reading books.

Spanish

Spanish has become essential in CA. My approach to tutor any language is to work with students on conversational skills first. Reading and writing comes later.

Music Theory

Music Theory is important to learn in order to have a good understanding of music and the factors involved in playing music. I have taught Music Theory such as different scales. I, for instance, have taught a person how to listen and differentiate sounds. I, myself, distinguish sounds rather than look at notes.

Writing

Writing is an important skill to have in life. I believe in teaching the essentials of writing and exposing students to different writing styles.

Geography

Geography is an important subjects since it teaches the location of countries, cities and much more. I usually emphasize concepts with students such as map reading, etc.

English

English is an important part of school. There are different components to English namely Grammar, Vocabulary and much more. I emphasize building skills in vocabulary, sentence structure and other grammar. I tutor English by teaching students to use what they already know and deducing the rest. I also strongly believe in dictionary use.

Accounting

I have taught the essentials of Accounting in a class such as the importance of a ledger. I emphasize careful attention to the different lines and facts in a problem. I start with teaching how to look at pay checks and personal budget making. I feel I can tutor this subject.

World History

World history is an integral part of our world: past, present and future. I believe in tutoring events and assisting students with reading historical sources.

Economics

I have studied and taught the basics of economics as part of my history and social studies background. I feel I can tutor ecomomics to students and its relationship to history and social studies.

LSAT

Students going to law school need to pass this test. Logic and the ability to interpret difficult material are essential. I tutor by going through practice tests and working through difficult texts.

GRE

There are many components to the GRE. Test-taking strategies is the most important one. I actively teach test taking strategies and critical reading and thinking.

Proofreading

Proof reading is an important skill to have. Papers often are written sloppily. I have always encouraged my students to proofread their papers.

Law

There are many facets to the study of law. I have tutored students how to distinguish essential facts of a case from nonessential facts.

GED

Many students are taking the GED as adults. GED measures the general knowledge of students regarding high school subjects. I usually assist students in understanding general concepts and apply problem solving skills. In the English portion I teach how to analyze paragraphs. I also teach vocabulary and grammar. In History I tutor in general concepts and specific events as well as its influences on the world today.

SAT Reading

Reading is an important part of the SAT. I have seen too many times students reading words without understanding them. I strongly encourage students to understand what they are reading and come to conclusions. I also tutor vocabulary skills.

SAT Writing

Writing is an integral part of the SAT. I believe in and have tutored students in the elements of writing such as correct sentence structure and paragraph. I also assist students in putting their thought in order and on paper.

Physical Science

Physical Science is related to other sciences. It is important to understand Physical Science in Geogrphy and Ecology. I have tutored people different aspects of physical science.

Nursing

I tutor students in nursing by explaining concepts and how different forces in the body work together. I also assist students to understand the material.

Philosophy

Much of people's thinking patterns are built on philosophy. I have worked with students on studying different philosophies such as Greek philosophy.

ASVAB

This test is essential for men and women desiring to join the Armed Forces. In my tutoring of this test I emphasize tutoring of problem-solving skills, recognizing important facts and a general understanding of a concept.

Ecology

Ecology is one of the main subjects in science. I have explained the concepts of ecology to students such as global warming, etc. I feel I can tutor this subject.

Spelling

Spelling is still an essential skill even in the age of computer spellchecks. I tutor spelling by teaching spelling rules when ever possible. I also believe in fun games such as mini spelling games.

Reading is an essential component of this test. Reading consists of understanding the test and interpreting it. I usually tutor students by teaching the elements of the test such as the main idea. In addition I teach context in order to find the meaning of unknown vocabulary.

The purpose of ACT Science is to have a general understanding of Science concepts. It is also essential to understand what is in a scientific paragraph and to draw conclusions. I assist students' general understanding of concepts in Science and draw conclusions.

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary education from an early age on is the building block upon which all further knowledge is built. I have taught small children in subjects such as writing, reading, counting, and much more. I have experience both with regular and special education students.

General Music

I have studied several courses in general music and I have assisted my classmates in understanding the general concepts and genres of music. I, for instance, specialize in Ethnomusicology and music genres of different countries such as Sitar music from India. I feel I can tutor this subject.

Music History

I studied music history including Ethnomusicology. I feel, I can tutor that subject. I studied the different periods in music and the different genres.

Study Skills

In my career as a Teacher and Tutor, I emphasized study skills and organization. I feel that good study habits are the foundation upon which a good tutoring program is built. An unorganized student without the know how of studying, will have great difficulties with any subject.

I have a BA and I have majored in Anthropology. I specialize in cultural Anthropology. I have traveled and studied different cultures.
