Dear parents and students: Assisting students to be the best they can be in English, ESL or elementary arithmetic (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) is my goal. Working with a student to better comprehend my subject specialty motivates me and gives me great satisfaction. When a student masters all or part of the subject is the most important achievement in the teaching or tutoring process.

When I work with a student, I like to find out what teaching style works best for her or him. Some like to read or take notes, some like visuals, others like listening. I strive to tailor lessons to an individual student. I have a wide range of experience with many levels of students, ranging from elementary school reading and arithmetic to college graduate students in composition, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation as well as many levels of adults who want to learn English from the very beginning. I have also worked with basic ESL literate adults who want to understand how to use a computer in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and beginning Excel.

Teaching and tutoring is my calling.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have been teaching English as a Second Language since 1997. I've taught ESL composition, reading, grammar, spelling, pronunciation and conversation at various colleges in the Bay Area as well as in Adult Education for Oakland Unified School District and West Contra Costa Unified School District.

Writing

I have an MA in English/TESOL & know all these subjects in detail except, perhaps, American History.
