Access the Power of Math and Science:
Math and Science are most often taught in a manner that makes each difficult to understand, much less remember. This need not be so! Equations do not merely drop out of the sky. Nor will a detailed and dry derivation necessarily deepen comprehension. Equations do, however, correspond to literal processes in the real world.
I find it much more pragmatic to emphasize the beauty and utility of mathematical concepts and functions, and the power of as it gives students a context and appreciation that makes recall a cinch. Memorization also works, but is fraught with error under the stress of testing.
The power of chemistry is even more accessible than math by this means of comprehension, and furthermore, comprehension is arguably necessary for physics, where one simply cannot get by via rote memorization. Access the power of math and science by simple comprehension -- it's fun and it works!
Program MATLAB:
As an atmospheric scientist, I work with MATLAB every day. I use MATLAB to navigate data directories, import data, perform data analyses on data having multiple dimensions, and generate various forms of output.
MATLAB has a truly accessible interface which can be learned in just a few short sessions, a phenomenal online help forum, and it does most of the math for you. Of course, it is important that you are able to evaluate what MATLAB is doing; therefore a fundamental understanding of matrix algebra, of statistics, and of calculus, is helpful.
Do Yoga:
A yoga practitioner in numerous schools of yoga for nearly 20 years, I embarked on yoga certification merely to deepen my knowledge of the practice, but it turns out that I adore teaching yoga.
The yoga courses I teach -- Science of Self -- are an exploration of the myriad, interacting feedback loops between body and mind that result in the expression of self. I include complete sets of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan for Science of Self classes and workshops. I'm certified as a Level I Kundalini Yoga teacher, and a member of the International Kundalini Yoga Teacher's Alliance.
